Feb. 16 is an auspicious day when two holidays come together. Celebrate Paczki Day and Mardi Gras on Feb. 16 with the pastries that are synonymous with each occasion – paczki and King’s Cake. Mark the holiday with these pastries in Schaumburg. And just on this one day, our bakers have decided to declare the calorie count as 0 for both treats!
Paczki
Who can resist paczki — a yeast doughnut filled with jam and covered with powdered sugar? Tasty and sweet, this Polish delicacy isn’t limited to those of Polish descent. This is something people of all nationalities can enjoy. Be sure to seek paczki with plenty of jam, such as strawberry, apricot, blueberry or lemon. Our bakers like to overfill these treats. Other yummy fillings include cheese, custard, and chocolate.
King’s Cake
Another great reason to consume baked goods on Feb. 16 is Mardis Gras. There is a limited time to delight in King’s Cake – only during Mardi Gras – because it’s thought to be bad luck to eat this treat out of season.
One excellent recipe for these pastries in Schaumburg calls for filling Danish coffeecake dough with butter, raspberry, or almond. Our bakers drizzle icing on top and sprinkle with colored sugar. Of course, they add beads and the baby figurine.
